What is Pilates?
Pilates, pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates, is a mind-body exercise system designed to strengthen the weak and challenge the strong. Pilates (1880-1967) was a German expatriate who first made his mark in England during WWI when he developed a series of exercises and innovative equipment to help prisoners of war regain strength and mobility. When Joseph Pilates immigrated to New York, the local professional dance community discovered that his conditioning techniques helped prevent injury and improve strength while maintaining long, even muscle tone. This sparked a vast following of this method of exercise.

How often should I do Pilates?
To get results Pilates should be practiced a minimum of twice a week. 3 times a week will give you optimum results. The key is consistency. If you consistently attend twice a week for 6 months you will feel and look different. If you attend 3 times a week one week and 1 time a week for 3 weeks, you will not see the same results. Commitment is key.
What should I wear?
Clothing that can move with you and will not hang too loosely off your body. No denim. Any clothing that allows the instructor to see your body move. Loose shorts are also not good for modesty. Should you plan to wear socks, please choose socks with grips or “sticky” bottoms for grip. No shoes are worn for Pilates.
What is your rescheduling/cancellation policy?
Consistency is key to getting the results you want and time is valuable. Platinum Pilates has a 24 hour cancellation/rescheduling policy for Private and Duet Pilates sessions. No-shows, cancellations and ANY reschedules with less than 24 hours notice will be charged the full amount. Any rescheduling/cancellations made for Monday must be made PRIOR to 12pm on the Saturday before to avoid a rescheduling/cancellation charge. Tentative appointments are not taken; all appointments made are considered set appointments and will be charged accordingly.
Medical emergencies are the only exception to this rescheduling/cancellation policy and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
What is your snow or inclement weather policy?
The latest information will be found on the Studio’s Facebook. For Private and Duet Pilates sessions, your instructor will be in touch with you to handle any inclement weather. If you know you will not attend in inclement weather, please follow the cancellation policy and notify your instructor as soon as possible.
